Although I lacked the motivation this morning, I decided to drag myself out for another walk, the second walk this week. I thought I would walk over to my dad’s house in Scholes near Holmfirth but by avoiding civilization as much as I could.
I started off, and within three minutes I was puffing and panting and wondering why I started this as Castle Hill (my first destination) came into view, a view which made me panic a little as it just looked so far away. Even though the MASSIVE looking (Mount Everest massive!) Taylor Hill stood before me at Lockwood, I carried on. It wasn’t long until I reached my first path so once I got there I started to relax more and enjoy the walk.
I still kept thinking to myself “it would be far more easier to fight my depression with drugs (legal & illegal) and alcohol” but within an hour I reached Castle Hill and these feelings soon vanished as I sat down and took in the view over Huddersfield. After a short rest and spurned on by the rain heading towards me, I made my way down Lumb Lane towards and Farnley Tyas. After a few miles of walking through fields and over hedges, I finally reached Thurstonland and its amazing views looking out over the Holme Valley and beyond. I spent quite awhile here and took in the breath taking views.
I think I spent a little too much time here as the wet weather was almost on top of me so I had to push on. I got my hands covered in grease as someone had totally covered their gate with it so I had to find an alternative way into Thurstonland which was underneath a barbed wire fence, I felt like someone out of ‘The Great Escape’ as I threw my pack over the fence then proceeded to ease my way under it, almost catching and tearing my hoodie in the proceed which I wasn’t happy about. Anyway, after another half mile, I reached the large hill that overlooks New Mill.
By now I was muddy, soaking wet and tired, but again, walking was proven to be the best anti-depressant. As it was now pouring down, I decided to finish the walk in New Mill, I’m glad I did as it gave me the chance to meet up with my best friend Helen and her daughter Eva who live in New Mill.
Another great walk!
